We live in an amazing universe. Our relatively small corner of space, the Milky Way galaxy, is home to somewhere between 100-400 billion stars. And each night (unless you live on a really bright city block!) this astronomical display hovers in our field of vision, providing inspiration and imaginative spark to countless poets, scientists, and spiritual seekers across the generations.
From a scientific point of view, the night sky shows us that anything is possible. Stars, planets, and galaxies form from the smallest bits of dust and gas – coming together over the eons to create the dazzling beauty we witness in this moment.
From a spiritual point of view, the universe can be a reminder that each one of us, like the trillions of planets in space, is both independent and interdependently connected as part of a much bigger, beautiful system than we alone can understand.
And from a romantic point of view, even a single shooting star or a lonely half-moon tells us that we are not alone in our feelings and thoughts. Standing silent, looking up at a dark sky, we know there is light and warmth emanating from somewhere not so very far away.
As we move into clearer skies and warmer nights this spring season – give yourself a well-deserved moment of serenity and look up at the stars. We think you’ll be glad you did.
