Whatever new beginnings and challenges we face in these times of transformation, there are several qualities we can always return to when seeking to establish our confidence and direction:
Courage: All worthwhile journeys (the ones that really get you somewhere) begin in the face of the unknown. We want to feel safe and secure before embarking on new ventures, yet deep down we also know that growth comes from stepping beyond the familiar. It is impossible to see the peak of the mountain when looking from the base – so we have to look within, find our inner source of courage, and begin climbing.
You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step. – Martin Luther King, Jr.
Resolve: New adventures awaken our sense of passion and wonder in life. They can also awaken within us the mindset that makes the difference between an average existence and a great one – determination. Distractions and disappointments will fade with time, while commitment to our greatest path will exceed all else.
There are two mistakes one can make along the road to truth...not going all the way, and not starting.
Wisdom: We are the very doors through which we enter – where we walk is who we want to become. Certain big rewards can be powerful motivators as we seek footholds in the world, yet it is also a wonderful thing to be able to start each new adventure realizing that the small sights along our way are just as important as the grand views from the summit.
“The simple things are also the most extraordinary things, and only the wise can see them.” – Paulo Coelho
Be brave. Commit to yourself always. And walk with eyes wide open, in the wisdom that new beginnings will never cease to well up within the depths of your being.
