There is no question that we live in an age saturated with technology. Many people find our near constant connection to phones, tablets, & computers interferes with our ability to be mindful. Devices can easily pull our attention away from the physical world and make it difficult to be fully present. But our devices are tools and there is a growing trend to use them as tools to reconnect and be present. We’ve compiled a few different apps that allow technology to help rather than hinder our attempts to mindful & fully present for our lives.

Mindfulness Training App

This app has been created by Sounds True, a multimedia publisher with a mission to share spiritual wisdom. The Mindfulness Training App offers an introduction to various meditations practices, ranging from the introductory How To Meditate with Pema Chödron to Kabbalah and Shamanic Mediations. There are also extra talks available that delve deeper into topics like happiness and the science of meditation. Although the app is free, some of the more advanced content requires an in-app purchase.

Insight Timer

The Insight Timer app offers free guided meditations from well-known teachers, included Jack Kornfield, Eckart Tolle, Tara Brach, and Jon Kabat-Zinn. The app creators have paid special attention to providing clear and beautiful audio of Tibetan singing bowls and bells to help begin and end your practice. The app can also be used to set reminders according to time or location. In addition to encouraging you to build a consistent meditation practice, these notifications can be used to simply encourage you to focus on being fully present in the moment.

Stop, Breathe & Think

Created by Tools for Peace, the Stop, Breathe & Think app encourages users to cultivate compassion and kindness through daily mindfulness practice. One unique feature of this app is the suggestion option.  You tell the app how you are feeling, both physically and emotionally. Based on your response, the app will suggest meditation practices for you.

Note: Mind Fuel Daily is not associated with any of these apps. Got an app that you use, share it with us!
